Event Details

The Brasstown Bald Buster is a 5k road race on April 25, 2026, hosted by Project 42 Running. It starts at the bottom of Brasstown Bald and finishes at the summit, which is Georgia's highest peak. The course features a 1,700-foot ascent over the 3.1-mile distance.

A separate "Brasstown Bald Ruck" division is also offered. Participants in this division carry a weighted pack: 15 lbs for women and 25 lbs for men. They have a 2.5-hour time limit to reach the summit.

Logistics and Rules

The event takes place at the Brasstown Bald Visitor Center & Recreation Area (2941 Highway 180 Spur, Hiawassee, GA). Parking is only available at the top of the mountain; participants must then walk down or take a shuttle to the start line. A mandatory pre-race briefing is scheduled for 7:30 AM at the starting area.

There is no race day registration, and entries are non-transferable, non-refundable, and non-deferrable. The event will proceed regardless of weather.

All finishers receive a medal, and a t-shirt is guaranteed for those who register by April 10, 2026.

Awards

Prizes are awarded to the top three overall men and women in both the 5k running race and the ruck division. A long-standing course record of 24:40 is noted for the running race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
