Bay of Fundy International Marathon
The Bay of Fundy International Marathon is a cross-border sports event held on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, and Lubec, Maine. The competition features multiple race distances that involve traveling between Canada and the United States.
Known for its international course, the event requires specific documentation for participants in the longer distances. Runners must provide passport or valid travel document information during registration. These documents are reviewed by border agents in the two days preceding the race at the international bridge crossings in Lubec and Campobello. Once cleared, athletes can use a dedicated runner lane to cross the border during the race without stopping.
Distances available include:
- 42.2 km Marathon
- 21.1 km Half Marathon
- 10 km
The 10 km race is a point-to-point course that starts at the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and ends in Lubec. Unlike the longer distances, the 10 km route stays entirely within the United States and does not cross the international border. The marathon and half marathon courses cross the border multiple times between the two countries.
The event partners with local organizations, including the Campobello Island Community Food Bank and the Lubec Community Food Pantry. Participants have the option to donate to these charities or to a community fund that supports registration fees for others. Registration policies allow for participant transfers and distance changes until early May, though refund insurance is managed separately through the registration platform.
