Borders 8-hour Challenge 2026

The event is held at Rock UK near Newcastleton and runs on trail paths around Borders Forest Park. Participants complete as many 4.366 mile loops as possible within an eight hour time limit. An electronic wristband records each lap and the time each lap is completed.

  • 7+ Laps = Ultra Marathon

The route is entirely on trail paths and features about 480 ft of ascent per lap. A GPX file is provided for full route details. Basecamp at Rock UK offers kit storage with two 6 x 3 meter gazebos and an indoor hall; spectators are welcome and onsite catering will provide hot food, snacks and drinks. Mandatory kit includes sufficient nutrition and hydration (minimum 500 ml fluid per hour and 60–90 g carbohydrates per hour of running), appropriate clothing for the conditions, dry clothes for after the event, a mobile phone and a headtorch. Timing uses HuTags on velcro straps worn on the wrist; tags must not be covered and runners must check out with the timing partners to finalise lap counts and collect their finisher prize.
