Event Overview

The Borders 8-hour Challenge is a timed running event on 5 September 2026. The goal is to complete as many laps of a 4.366 mile trail circuit as possible within an 8-hour limit. The total number of laps determines the distance achieved.

Participants can reach common race distances based on the number of laps completed:

  • 3 laps = Half Marathon
  • 6 laps = Full Marathon
  • 7 or more laps = Ultra Marathon

Route and Location

The route consists of trail paths around Borders Forest Park. Each lap involves 480 feet of ascent.

Event Details

The event basecamp is at Rock UK, which also provides onsite catering. Parking is available on-site for a fee. Overnight accommodation in various lodges and shared rooms is available for booking through Rock UK for the nights before the event.

A mandatory kit list includes sufficient nutrition and hydration, weather-appropriate clothing, dry clothes for after the race, a mobile phone, and a headtorch.

Race timing uses an electronic wristband (HuTag) that records the start and finish time of each lap. Upon finishing, participants must check out with the timing team to finalize their result and then collect their finisher prize from the basecamp.
