The Maverick Kielder Forest Gravel 2026
The event takes place on Saturday 5 September 2026 at Kielder Castle, Kielder, Hexham, Northumberland, and marks the centenary of Kielder Forest. The courses run through forest trails that mix fast sections with steady inclines; the forest covers more than 250 square miles and is noted for walking, cycling and Dark Sky Park status.
Five route options start from the castle:
- Ultra - 50 km, elevation +1177 m
- Marathon - 43 km, elevation +871 m
- Half Marathon - 23 km, elevation +407 m
- Middle - 12 km, elevation +487 m
- Short - 6 km, elevation +205 m
Outposts supply top-up food and drinks along the routes: five outposts on the Ultra, four on the Marathon, two on the Half Marathon and one on the Middle route. The organisers aim for cup-free outposts; participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. Cut-off rules apply to the Ultra and Marathon routes (the Ultra allows 8 hours 30 minutes to complete the 50 km).
On-site camping is available and nearby Kielder Campsite offers a range of accommodation options including camping pitches, campervan pitches, family pods and caravans. The event features a fully marked course, chip timing with online results, event photography, food and drink outlets, bag drop and a metal finishers medal. Parking at the venue is pay and display, card payment only. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
