Bordeleau Vineyards Wine Run 5k
The Bordeleau Vineyards Wine Run is a chip-timed athletic event held at Bordeleau Vineyards & Winery in Eden, Maryland. This event features a single distance for participants:
- 5 km run / walk
The course is designed as an out-and-back route that starts and finishes directly at the winery. The terrain is relatively flat, consisting of paved surfaces as well as sections of grass through and around the vineyard rows. Both runners and walkers are permitted to participate in the event. While strollers are allowed, they are not recommended by the organizer due to the uneven nature of the vineyard ground. Regulations from the USDA regarding produce and vegetable farms mean that dogs are not permitted on the property.
Participants receive several items as part of their registration, including a cotton t-shirt, a finisher medal, and a portable, shatterproof wine glass. Upon completing the course, participants of legal drinking age receive a pour of wine. For younger participants, a discounted registration option is available for those under the age of 21, which excludes the wine and wine glass.
The event includes a competitive element with age group awards for the top three finishers in various ten-year categories. These awards range from the 19 & under group to those aged 80 and over. Results are posted online following the conclusion of the race. The event also partners with US Kennels, Inc., a non-profit organization that matches rescue dogs with disabled veterans to be trained as service animals.
