Bonneville Backyard Ultra
The Bonneville Backyard Ultra in Provo, UT is a last person standing event run in the Backyard Ultra format. Runners must complete one 4.167-mile loop each hour; failure to start a loop on time results in elimination. No late starts and no pacers are allowed.
The course is an out and back along Deer Creek Reservoir with about 2.08 miles each way. The terrain is described as mostly smooth and very runnable, while repetition, sleep deprivation, and the hourly restart are noted as ongoing challenges for participants.
Organizers use a corral to track who is continuing each hour and audible signals to mark the approach of the next loop: three whistles for three minutes to go, two whistles for two minutes to go, one whistle for one minute to go, and a bell to signal the start exactly on the hour. If a runner is not inside the corral when the bell rings they are recorded as out.
The event follows the original Backyard Ultra rules where only one runner can finish and all others will record a DNF. Due to occasional last minute no shows, organizers reserve the right to invite a small number of waitlisted runners to serve as standby participants on race day; such invitations are not guaranteed entries.
