Bold Coast Bash
The Bold Coast Bash is a trail running event in Cutler, Maine, offering coastal single-track running on the Bold Coast Trail. The course follows a figure 8 with a short middle section run twice on each lap; each lap measures about 16.7 km (10.4 miles). Runners must return to the Start/Finish/Aid Area at the end of each lap and have their lap passages recorded by the Start/Finish marshal.
Course terrain includes unfenced cliff tops, roots, rocks, mud, and bog bridging that can be slippery or unstable. All turns and junctions are marked with blue surveyor flags. The only aid station is at the Start/Finish area; there are no aid stations on the course, so participants must be self-supporting. Laps are expected to take between two and four hours.
Mandatory equipment is checked before the race and at the start of every lap and includes a windproof or waterproof jacket, warm mid layer, warm head covering, warm gloves, foil blanket, whistle, at least 200 calories of instant energy, and a headlamp for later laps. Cell coverage is spotty; live race tracking is available through a timing app when service exists.
Entrants are capped for environmental protection; wait lists open automatically when capacity is reached. Drop bags and small pop-up shelters are allowed in the Start/Finish area. The organizers acknowledge the ancestral lands of the Wabanaki tribes and offer a 50% entry discount to indigenous runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
