Bad Little Trail Run - 8mile Run and 2.5mile run/walk
The Bad Little Trail Run takes place in Whitneyville on 27 September 2026 and uses trails in the Machias River Preserve. Both races start and finish in Whitneyville on the Downeast Sunrise Trail adjacent to the access parking lot.

Both courses cross the Machias River on an old railroad bridge before splitting. The Homestead Trail is a narrow, twisting, undulating singletrack about one mile long; it can be muddy and slippery at times but is maintained. The 8 mile course combines singletrack sections, the Sunrise Trail, the Heritage trail, the Munson Pitch Trail and riverside singletrack, with some grassy sections, hidden roots and occasional mud holes. The 2.5 mile route follows the Sunrise Trail to the Homestead Trail and returns on a short trail and bridge to the finish.
Race entries include a finisher gift, post-race awards, and post-race celebrations with a BBQ and potluck. A free raffle awards a RunningWarehouse gift certificate valued at $100. Awards are given by gender and in age groups including 17 and under, 19 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus.
Both courses are marked with blue surveyor flags; runners keep flags to their right and should note flag clusters at turns. Registration fees listed for the event include $25 for the 8 mile and $20 for the 2.5 mile, with higher day of race fees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
