Bad Little Trail Run
The Bad Little Trail Run is scheduled for 27 September 2026 and runs through the Machias River Preserve from Whitneyville to Machias. The course is a point to point trail of approximately eight miles that follows single-track trails, sections of the Down East Sunrise Trail, and paths through Middle River Park.
Distances offered:
- 8 Miles solo point to point trail run
- 8 Miles two person relay with legs of 4.8 miles and 3.2 miles
The route traverses the Homestead and Heritage trails, offers river views along the Machias River, and finishes at a pavilion in Middle River Park where there will be post-race food, music, and awards. The event includes a finisher gift, a post-race barbecue as part of the Down East Sunrise Trail community picnic, a raffle for gift certificates and local gift cards, and awards for overall and age group placings (Top 3 men and women, 1st and 2nd relay teams, and age groups 17 & under, 19-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+).
Logistics include a self-serve water station at 4.8 miles and bus transportation from Middle River Park to Whitneyville for race access. The event celebrates ten years of trail running at the Machias River Preserve.
Registration opens 18 August 2026 and closes 26 September 2026. Fees are $30 for the 8 mile run and $25 per relay team member; day of registration rates are $35 for the 8 mile run and $20 per relay person. Washington County youth (17 and under) and Wabanaki tribal members may register for free. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
