Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon : Merrill, WI
The Black Squirrel Scurry is a multi-discipline triathlon held in the Merrill area that combines paddling, cycling, and trail running across local parks and trails. The course includes a paddle down the Prairie River, a road and trail bike segment that uses the River Bend Trail into Lincoln County countryside, and a trail run through the Merrill Area Recreation Complex and Council Grounds State Park.
Distances for the primary course:
- 2 miles paddle on the Prairie River
- 17.5 miles bike using the River Bend Trail and surrounding roads
- 5 km trail run through the MARC and Council Grounds State Park
Transitions and facilities are staged at local sites: paddle/bike transition at Stange’s Park, bike/run transition and finish at the MARC (1100 MARC Dr), and packet pick-up is available at the MARC and at the Prairie Trails starting area. A shuttle operates between the MARC and Prairie River Park for participants who park at the MARC.
Divisions include solo, 19U, relay, tandem, and eBike categories; relay teams may use 2 or 3 members, and eBike entrants are placed in a separate division not eligible for overall champion prizes. Awards recognize the top finishers in each division and overall solo winners receive plaques. Beneficiaries include Northwoods Veterans Post and Friends of the River Bend Trail.
