Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon

The Black Squirrel Scurry Triathlon takes place in Merrill, Wisconsin on July 25, 2026. The event is organized in cooperation with the City of Merrill Parks and Recreation Department and the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce. Packet pick-up is available at the Smith Center (1100 MARC Dr) or at the start area at Prairie Trails Park on race morning. Participants may park at the MARC and use a shuttle to Prairie River Park.

The course comprises three sequential segments:

  • 2 mile paddle down the Prairie River
  • 17.5 mile bike ride using the River Bend Trail into Lincoln County
  • 5K trail run through the Merrill Area Rec Complex and Council Grounds State Park

Transition areas are planned at Stange's Park for paddle to bike, and at the MARC for bike to run and the finish. Event categories cover solo competitors, 19 and under divisions, relay teams, tandem teams, and eBike divisions with no throttle. Awards include top three in each division and overall plaques for the top solo male and top solo female, with presentations at Cenotaph Park. Beneficiaries named for this event include Northwoods Veterans Post and Friends of the River Bend Trail. A weather safety policy guides race officials and course workers and the course may be paused or stopped if conditions are deemed unsafe.
