Trail Running at Nine Mile Recreation Area
The Wausau Trail Run is held within the Nine Mile Recreation Area in Wausau, Wisconsin, as part of the broader Wausau 24 event weekend. The race course utilizes a combination of single-track mountain bike trails and ski trails. Participants navigate a terrain characterized by natural obstacles, including tree roots, rocks, and frequent twists and turns.
The event features several distance options based on a loop system. Each lap is approximately 5 km in length. Runners can choose from the following distances:
- 5K (1 lap)
- 10K (2 laps)
- 20K (4 laps)
- 1 Mile (Kocourek Kids Trail Run for participants under 12)
Because the adult races take place at sunset, all participants are required to carry and use their own lighting equipment. The youth event, designed for children under the age of 12, allows parents to run alongside the participants on a dedicated 1 mile lap. The venue is located at 221700 Red Bud Road, providing access to the established trail network of the recreation area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
