Wausau Trail Run

The Wausau Trail Run is held in central Wisconsin at Nine Mile County Forest as part of the Wausau 24 weekend. The event uses single-track mountain bike and ski trails and adopts a lap format where each lap is approximately 5K. The lap format brings runners through the Dirt Town transition area at the end of each circuit.

Distances offered:

  • 5K - one lap, approximately 5K
  • 10K - two laps, approximately 10K
  • 20K - four laps, approximately 20K

The run takes place on a forested course with winding trails; precise distances may vary and maps are subject to change. The event begins near sunset so all runners are required to carry at least one light source. Only the start/finish area is lit. Runners must display their race number on the front for the entire event and must cross the finish line for a recorded time; failure to finish will be recorded as DNF.

Only registered racers, credentialed media, and event staff may be on the designated racecourse during the event; spectators must stay clear of the course. Dogs are allowed at the venue on leash but are not permitted on the course. No listening devices covering either ear are allowed for safety.

Parking is free; carpooling and parking on Red Bud Road are encouraged. Water and nutrition are available at Red Bud Road and at a checkpoint referred to as Checkpoint Charlie. Wisconsin Mountain Bike Patrol provides first aid coverage during the weekend.

A separate kids program for ages 11 and under runs on the Saturday with parents encouraged to participate as course marshals and spectators. Awards are given for 1st to 3rd place by male and female in age categories; recipients must be present to receive awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
