Wausau Trail Run : Nine Mile County Forest
Wausau Trail Run is an evening trail event held in Nine Mile County Forest in central Wisconsin. The 2026 race uses a lap format on an approximately 5K loop. Each participant completes 1, 2 or 4 laps, providing these distance options:
- 5K
- 10K
- 20K
The course follows a combination of singletrack mountain bike trails and ski trails. Distances are approximate due to winding trails and maps are subject to change. Only registered racers, credentialed media and event staff may run on the designated course; spectators may be present but must stay clear of the course. Dogs are allowed on the venue on leash but are not permitted on the racecourse.
Lighting is limited to the start and finish area; all runners are required to carry at least one light source. Race numbers must be displayed on the front for the entire race. Listening devices covering either ear are not permitted for safety. Short cutting the course results in disqualification.
Parking at the venue is free; the organizers recommend carpooling and parking on Red Bud Road for runners because other participants will be arriving to set up. Water and nutrition will be available at Red Bud Road and at Checkpoint Charlie. First aid coverage is provided by Wisconsin Mountain Bike Patrol during the event.
