Running Through the Decades - 1980s Edition
This event in Galveston is presented by Bigfoot Running Company with an 1980s theme that includes a pre-race costume contest, an on-course soundtrack of 80s music supplied by a live DJ, and retro-themed race staff and photography. The event offers both in-person and virtual options.
Distances offered:
- Kids Dash : about 50 meters, for children 10 and under
- 1 Mile : untimed fun run, includes tee and finisher medal
- 5K (3.11 miles) : chip-timed, overall and age-group awards
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles) : chip-timed, Bigfoot trophies and age-group awards
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles) : chip-timed, Bigfoot trophies and full age-group awards
- Virtual Run (13.1 miles) : virtual participation option
- Volunteer Then Run (5K) : chip-timed bib, shirt, finisher medal; limited to first five
Awards and participant items include finisher medals and shirts for all distances, Bigfoot trophies for top overall finishers, Masters recognition for age 40 and over, and age-group pins from youth through 70+. Chip timing is used for several distances.
Course surfaces are primarily paved trails and park paths with some mixed surfaces such as crushed granite or dirt. Aid stations with water and on-course support are provided. Events take place in public parks and greenbelts where other park users may be present. Volunteer roles range from water stations and course monitors to lead bike and mascot duties, with specified volunteer benefits for different roles.
