Event Overview
The Shark Week Showdown is an ocean-themed running event hosted by Bigfoot Running Company. It takes place at Stewart Beach in Galveston, Texas. The event is described as family-friendly.
Race Distances
Participants can choose from several race distances:
- Kids Dash (for participants aged 10 & under)
- 1 Mile Run
- 5K Run (3.1 miles)
- 10K Run (6.22 miles)
- Virtual Run A "Volunteer then Run" option is also available specifically for the 5K distance.
Event Features
The event has a Shark Week theme. All participants in the Kids Dash, 1 Mile, 5K, and 10K receive a finisher medal. Registered runners also receive a race t-shirt. Music is played at the start and finish line, and aid stations are provided on the course. The 5K and 10K races are chip-timed and feature age group awards. The first overall male and female finishers in these distances receive a Bigfoot Trophy, and the first Masters (40+) finishers receive a recognition pin.
Course and Logistics
The course terrain includes a mix of pavement, crushed granite, and some dirt paths. The event takes place in public spaces, so participants may share the area with other park users.
