1980s Edition Running Event
The Running through the Decades Half Marathon in Carrollton focuses on a 1980s theme, featuring retro music and a costume contest. Participants are encouraged to wear era-specific attire such as neon colors, leg warmers, and headbands. The event takes place at Ted Polk Middle School and utilizes surrounding park paths and paved trails.
Distance Options
The event offers several distances to accommodate various preferences:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile chip-timed course.
- Quarter Marathon: A 6.55 mile chip-timed race.
- 5K Run: A 3.11 mile chip-timed event.
- 1 Mile Run: An untimed fun run for all ages.
- Kids Dash: A 50-meter run for children aged 10 and under.
- Virtual Run: A 13.1 mile remote participation option.
Course and Atmosphere
The routes consist of mixed surfaces including pavement, crushed granite, and dirt paths. As the event is held in public greenbelts and parks, runners may share the space with other park users. Aid stations providing water are positioned along the course to support participants. A live DJ playing 1980s hits is present at the venue, and refreshments are provided at a dedicated rally tent.
Recognition and Awards
All finishers receive a medal and a t-shirt. Chip-timed races include specific awards for overall winners and age groups ranging from 10 and under to over 70. Special recognition pins are also designated for the Masters category (ages 40 and older). A pre-race costume contest awards participants for the best overall look, best group, and most authentic 1980s outfit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
