Big Sioux Rec Trail Race
The Big Sioux Rec Trail Race takes place at Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon, SD, with start and finish at the main picnic shelter and playground near 410 W Park St. The event uses the park's paved north-south bike trail and several dirt and grass trails that pass through prairie, wooded areas, and a bluff overlooking Brandon. Facilities at the start area include a large covered picnic shelter, a playground, a vault toilet, and an additional port a potty brought in by organizers.
Distances offered:
- 5 mile course using paved and dirt trails.
- 2 mile course using paved and dirt trails.
- Free Kids Race of about one mile along park trails.
Trail conditions may vary; courses sit in the Big Sioux floodplain and could be altered or canceled if heavy rainfall affects the park. Chip timing is provided for the trail series races. Entry fees are listed by distance categories: both 2 mile and 5 mile entries share the same price, with a reduced rate for participants 18 years old and under. Current members of the local running club received a member discount code; that code should not be used for under 18 entries. A multi race option covers all four series races at a special price and includes a special swag item for those entries.
