Big Sioux Rec Trail Race
The Big Sioux Rec Trail Race is an outdoor running event held at the Big Sioux Recreation Area. Organized by the Sioux Falls Area Running Club, this event is part of a broader regional trail series. The race has an established history, having been held between 2017 and 2019, as well as in 2023 and 2024.
Participants can choose from multiple distance options to suit their preferences. The event features two primary trail distances and a dedicated event for younger runners:
- 2 mile trail race
- 5 mile trail race
- Kids Race
The event is included in the club's Trail Series Point Championship. Runners who participate in the various races across the series earn points based on their finishing position within their age group. Points are awarded to the top ten finishers in each division, ranging from ten points for first place to one point for tenth place. At the conclusion of the series, gift cards are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 and over.
