The Big Sioux Rec Trail Race on September 26, 2026 returns to Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon, SD. The event offers multiple distance options and uses the park's paved bike trail plus several dirt and grass trails that lead through prairie, wooded areas, and up a bluff with views over Brandon.

Both the 2 and 5 mile courses start and finish by the main picnic shelter and playground near the park entrance and follow a mix of paved and unpaved trails. Facilities at the start/finish area include a large covered picnic shelter, a playground, a vault toilet, and an additional port-a-potty brought in for the event.
Chip timing is provided for the trail series. Participants should be aware that park entry requires a day pass or permit. Because the courses run in the Big Sioux floodplain, routes could be significantly altered or races canceled if heavy rainfall occurs before the event.
Registration details from the organizer note a standard race fee of $40 and a reduced fee of $15 for those 18 and under through the registration cutoff. A multi-race registration option and series scoring are part of the Trail Race Series; points are awarded by place and age divisions include: 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus.
