Big Sioux Rec Trail Race - September 26, 2026
The Big Sioux Rec Trail Race takes place in Big Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon, SD. The event uses the park's paved bike trail and several dirt and grass singletrack trails that pass through prairie, wooded areas, and a bluff overlooking Brandon. The main picnic shelter and playground serve as the start and finish area. The park contains a vault toilet and a portable toilet will be provided.
Distances offered:
- 5 Miler
- 2 Miler
- Free Kids Race, about 1 mile
The free kids race follows some park trails, awards small participation gifts, and allows parents to run with their children. Both the 2 and 5 mile courses start and finish at the picnic shelter and include sections on paved and unpaved trails. Races in the series are chip timed by 605 Running Company.
Entry pricing notes: the 2 and 5 mile races share the same entry price, with a lower price tier available for participants 18 years old and under. There is an option to register for all four series races at a special combined price and receive a special swag gift at that price point.
Because the courses lie within the Big Sioux floodplain, routes may be altered or races canceled if heavy rainfall affects the park. The event also awards series points by age division, with points allocated from 10 for first place down to 1 for tenth place. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
