Berry Dairy Days began as a Strawberry Festival in 1937 when Burlington volunteer firefighters organized a fundraiser. Early celebrations included a large strawberry shortcake paraded down Fairhaven Avenue and portions distributed to the crowd. In 1965 the festival was transferred to the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and renamed Berry Dairy Days to reflect the local dairy industry alongside strawberry farming. The festival is now co-hosted by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and the City of Burlington and is noted as one of the older festivals in Skagit County.
