Beer Blazer
The Beer Blazer is a multi-terrain running event held in the village of Beer, East Devon. Established in 2012, the race serves as a fundraiser for the Beer Primary School PTFA. The event offers three distinct distances:
- 10 Mile
- 6 Mile
- 1 Mile Fun Run
The 10 mile course features over 1,600 feet of elevation gain. The route begins in the fields above Pecorama and concludes at Beer Primary School. Participants traverse a variety of surfaces including fields, tracks, cliff tops, and open common land. Notable sections include the Jurassic Coast cliff tops, the pebble beach between Branscombe and Beer Head, the Undercliffs, and the "stairway to heaven." A time cut-off of 30 minutes is enforced at the two-mile water station; participants who do not reach this point in time are diverted to the shorter route.
The 6 mile distance follows much of the same terrain but involves less total ascent. The 1 mile fun run is open to participants of various ages, though children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
The event operates under ARC rules for multi-terrain running. Race headquarters is located at Beer Primary School on Mare Lane, where participants can find a BBQ and refreshments. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the 10 mile race, as well as the first team. The 6 mile race awards prizes to the first male and female finishers, while all fun run participants receive a memento. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
