Event
Because of the Brave 5K is scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, at American Village in Montevallo, Alabama (3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115). The event is presented by The Running Birds and American Village and is organized as a non-timed memorial 5K to honor service members. A portion of entry fees will be donated to the Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery and to American Village. Additional donations to those organizations are accepted. Entries are non-refundable; transfers to another participant or deferral to next year are allowed.
Course and logistics
The course is a paved 5K made up of a clearly marked 1.55-mile loop that participants complete twice. Each participant must carry a 2' x 3' American flag affixed to a pole for the entire course; flags and poles are provided at packet pickup and are intended to be lightweight. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted on the paved route. There is one water station located in the start/finish area, with hydration available at the halfway point and at the finish, and fruit provided at the finish. Packet pickup and the start/finish area are located near the main parking lots of American Village; parking and restroom access are available. Participants exchange their carried flag for a custom challenge coin at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
