Because of the Brave 5K
Because of the Brave 5K is scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, at American Village in Montevallo, Alabama (3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115). The event is organized as a Memorial Day observance to honor service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Participants complete a 5K course that uses a 1.55-mile loop through the American Village grounds. The loop is completed twice and will be marked with American flags. The entire course is on paved surfaces, and strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. Each participant is required to carry a 2' x 3' American flag attached to a pole for the entire course; flags and poles are provided at race-day packet pickup near the main parking lots. There will be parking and restroom access at the venue.
This is not a timed competition and there are no awards for finishers. At the finish line participants exchange the carried flag for a custom Because of the Brave 5K challenge coin. One water station will be available at the start/finish area, with hydration at the halfway point and fruit provided at the finish. A portion of entry fees will be donated to the Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery and to American Village; additional donations to those organizations are accepted. No refunds are offered, but entries may be transferred or deferred through the event organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
