Because of the Brave 5K

Because of the Brave 5K is an untimed Memorial Day event held at American Village in Montevallo, Alabama (3727 Highway 119, Montevallo, AL 35115) on May 31, 2027. The event honors members of the armed forces who gave their lives; a portion of each entry fee will be donated to the Support Committee for the Alabama National Cemetery and to American Village.

Each participant receives a 2' x 3' American flag mounted on a light pole to carry for the entire 5K course. The course is a paved 1.55-mile loop marked with American flags; participants complete the loop twice to cover the full distance. Paved surfaces allow strollers and wheelchairs on course.

This is not a timed race and no awards are given. At the finish, participants exchange the carried American flag for a custom Because of the Brave 5K challenge coin. One water station is provided on course near the halfway area, with additional hydration and a light snack available at the finish area. Day-of check-in is located near the main parking area at American Village, with parking and restroom access provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
