Forging Families 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run
Forging Families is a community road race event held in Columbiana, Alabama, with the start and finish at the Shelby County Arts Council at Old Mill Square. The event offers multiple distances and certified courses: the 5K is USATF #AL19060JE and the 10K is USATF #AL21027JE. The 10K follows a basic double-loop layout and both courses are described as fast and flat on an open course with city police support to control traffic.

All proceeds are donated to Sacred Selections, a not-for-profit organization that assists families with adoption. In 2023 the event donated $11,308.30, and since inception the race has raised over $77,000. In the last seven years the event has helped six families in their adoption efforts.
The Shelby County Arts Council location provides ample parking, green space, and access to the Grande Hall for indoor shelter before and after the event. The event awards 1st through 3rd place medals for male and female competitors across age categories: 1-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+.
Published registration fees include early bird and standard rates for the 5K and 10K, a fee for the 1 Mile Fun Run, and a Sleep In Special that includes a shirt. Early bird pricing is listed through 11/14/26, and registrations must be completed by 12/19/26 to be guaranteed a race shirt.
