The Beast of Burden - Summer is an ultra-distance running event that takes place on the historic Erie Canal towpath near Lockport, New York. Participants can choose from three distances: 100 miles, 50 miles, and 25 miles.

Course Details

The race starts at Wide Waters Marina, which offers access to showers and restrooms. From the start, runners follow a paved trail for about one mile before crossing the canal on a historic draw bridge to reach the Erie Canal Towpath. The point-to-point or out-and-back course includes aid stations approximately every 6 to 5.5 miles. One key location is the Village of Middleport, which serves as a turn-around point and aid station.

The event features fully stocked aid stations providing typical ultra-running foods and drinks. Items listed include Heed, water, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes, and donuts.

Special Awards

A "Double Beast Buckle" is awarded to any runner who completes both the Winter Beast 100-mile race and the Summer Beast 100-mile race within the same calendar year.
