Beast of Burden Summer
The Beast of Burden Summer is an ultramarathon event in Lockport, NY, held on August 15, 2026. Athletes choose from three distance options and run primarily along the historic Erie Canal towpath, with sections on a paved trail and a canal drawbridge crossing near the start.
The event starts at Wide Water's Marina. The marina area provides showers, restrooms and an aid station. After departing the marina, the course follows a paved trail for about one mile before crossing the canal on a historic drawbridge and continuing along the towpath.
Aid stations are positioned along the course, including one roughly six miles from the start and another about 5.5 miles beyond that at the Village of Middleport, which serves as a turn-around point. Aid stations are staffed by volunteers and offer a range of foods and drinks such as water, Heed, coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, pizza, pancakes and donuts.
The event includes a recognition element called the Double Beast Buckle: any 100 mile participant who completes both the Winter Beast 100 and the Summer Beast 100 in the same calendar year receives the Double Beast Buckle.
