Overview
The Bay One Beer Mile - Relay is scheduled for March 21, 2026 in Colonial Beach, Virginia at Ice House Brewery and Marina (119 Monroe Bay Avenue). The event is an untimed, 1-mile relay run/walk/crawl held in memory of John Lamb to raise awareness about blood donation. Entry is limited to twelve 5-person teams (sixty participants total). All participants must be 21 years of age or older. Registration price listed is $30.
Format, route and rules
The race uses a 0.1-mile loop around the brewery property. Each team completes ten laps in total. Each team member drinks a 10 fl oz beer, then completes two laps, repeating until the team finishes the mile. Beer served during the event is Ice House Brewery draft beer. Teams receive a themed baton that must be passed between runners. Competitors must drink only in the designated drinking area and must tip the cup over their head to show no beer remains before continuing. Beer cups may not be tampered with, and runners must follow the laid-out course with no shortcuts. Footwear suitable for running or walking is mandatory; sandals, heels, or unstable footwear are not allowed. Awards are planned for the top three teams and a prize is offered for best team spirit. There will be a single package pickup on race day at the brewery; new participants receive an unfilled logo growler, and returning participants may exchange or refill prior growlers.
