Event Overview
The Bay One Beer Mile Relay is an untimed social relay race held at the Ice House Brewery and Marina in Colonial Beach, Virginia. The event serves to honor the memory of John Lamb while raising awareness for blood donation. Participants navigate a course located on the brewery property, situated along the waters of Monroe Bay.
Course and Format
The relay takes place on a 0.1-mile loop. The race requires five-person teams to complete a total of 10 laps to reach the 1-mile distance. Each individual team member is responsible for two laps. The procedure for each participant involves:
- Consuming one 10-ounce beer in the designated drinking area.
- Formally confirming the cup is empty by tipping it over their head.
- Completing a lap of the course and repeating the process.
- Passing a themed baton to the next teammate after finishing their second lap.
Participation Requirements
Registration is strictly limited to 12 teams of five, for a total of 60 participants. All entrants must be at least 21 years of age and present a valid photo ID. Mandatory footwear rules are in place due to the nature of the route; participants must wear appropriate running or walking shoes, as sandals or heels are not permitted.
Event Features
Awards are provided to the top three finishing teams, and a separate prize is given for team spirit. The organizers encourage the use of team names, themes, and costumes. Participants receive a logo growler as part of their registration package. Post-race activities include live music, award presentations, and food and beverages available for purchase.
