Bath & Bristol Railway Races
The Bath & Bristol Railway Races follow the route of the former Bath to Bristol railway, running largely on a converted shared-use path. The courses are essentially 100% tarmac with only small grassy sections at start and finish, and are described as flat. The route includes heritage features such as restored signal boxes and stations, and a 2.5 km section alongside the Avon Valley Railway for the half marathon. The longer routes pass the Staple Hill Tunnel, a 450 m well-lit former double-track railway tunnel.
Distances offered include:
- 2 km fun run
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- 25 km point to point finishing at Bristol Temple Meads
- Marathon
- 50 km
Start and finish are at Green Park in Bath for the out and back races; the 25 km finishes outside Bristol Temple Meads. Bag transport is provided free to the 25 km finish in Bristol and a static bag drop is available for return races. The event uses wave starts of about 100 runners and provides numbered feed stations along each distance, with water, electrolyte drinks and a variety of snacks including gluten free and vegan options. Facilities at Green Park include toilets, coffee and food vendors and bike racking. The event is not open to canicross runners; buggy runners are permitted. All runners of 10 km and longer receive a two-sided 10 cm medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
