Bath & Bristol Railway Races
The Bath & Bristol Railway Races follow the original train line from Green Park Station in Bath to Bristol Temple Meads. The route is essentially 100% tarmac and runs through green countryside into the centre of Bristol. The former railway was in use from 1869 to 1971 and was later converted into a National Cycle Network route.
Distances on offer include:
- 2km Fun Run
- 10km Return Ticket
- Half Marathon Return Ticket
- 25km Bristol Temple Meads Single Ticket
- Marathon Return Ticket
- 50km Return Ticket
The 10km, half marathon, marathon and 50km use out and back formats starting and finishing in Bath. The 25km is a point to point route finishing outside Bristol Temple Meads; organisers provide free bag transport to that finish. The half marathon runs out and back to Bitton with 2.5 km each way beside the Avon Valley Railway. The 25km, marathon and 50km pass Bitton and continue past Warmley and Mangotsfield; the Staple Hill Tunnel (about 450 m) is on the longer routes and is well lit.
Course support includes multiple feed stations with water, electrolytes and a mix of food including gluten free and vegan options. Facilities at Green Park include toilets, coffee and food vans and a static bag drop. Buggy runners are permitted; canicross is not allowed. Group discount levels and prize categories are determined by entry numbers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
