Batavia United Way Bat Race
The Batavia United Way Bat Race is an annual running and walking event held in downtown Batavia, Illinois. The 13th edition of this event takes place along the Fox River Bike Path, starting at the intersection of River Street and State Street. This chip-timed race provides multiple distances to accommodate different ages and participation levels.
The following distances are available:
- 10k for adults and students
- 5k for adults and students
- 1/4 Mile Kids Fun Run
The 5k course follows an out-and-back route, while the 10k participants begin their race ahead of the shorter distance runners. All participants who complete their respective distances receive a finishing medal. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in both the 5k and 10k categories.
The event features a Halloween theme, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes. A costume contest includes categories such as Best Group Costume, Best Duo, Best Adult Male, Best Adult Female, and Best Child Costume. Interested participants can register for the contest at the information booth on the morning of the event.
Packet pick-up is located at 31 North River Street on the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the race, as well as on race morning. Amenities available for purchase on site include breakfast burritos, cider donuts, and a beverage bar. Proceeds from the event support local agencies and community programs such as preschool scholarships and holiday assistance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
