Ballinastoe Mountain Race
The Ballinastoe mountain running event takes place in County Wicklow, featuring routes through Ballinastoe Wood near Roundwood. This competition is part of the Leinster League and offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 11 km main course with 504 meters of climbing
- 4.7 km short course for junior runners
The event is classified with an 8 (3,2,3) difficulty rating, indicating difficult terrain with significant ascent. The 11 km route is fully marked, and participants are permitted to use GPS devices for navigation. The short course follows a specific path directly up to the boardwalk and returns along the same route to the finish line.
Participants must adhere to Level B mandatory kit requirements. This includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with emergency numbers, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Race organizers verify these items, and the specific kit required on the day depends on weather conditions.
The start, finish, and parking areas are located at Ballinastoe Wood. Following the race, the prize-giving ceremony and spot prize distribution are held at Kavanaghs in Roundwood. Participation is limited to 200 entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
