Trooperstown and Clara Vale Loop
The Trooperstown and Clara Vale Loop is a mountain running event held in County Wicklow. The course covers a distance of 21.5 km with a total ascent of 750 meters. This event is part of the Leinster Half-Marathon League and features a fully marked route across moderate terrain.
The race follows an out-and-back section combined with a clockwise loop. Participants start at the bridge beside the carpark and head uphill over Trooperstown Hill. The loop section takes runners over 'Boots' Hill and down towards Clara Vale. The course transitions through various surfaces, including small forest tracks, service roads, fireroads, and sections of tarmac. Notable landmarks along the way include the Avonmore river, Clara church, and the Avonmore Way. A water station for refills is available at approximately the 16 km mark.
Safety requirements for this event include a Level B mandatory kit. All participants must carry:
- Waterproof jacket
- Hat or buff
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
- Foil blanket or bivvy bag
The event organizers provide a parking location at grid reference T 158 969, which is a short walk from the start and finish area. An early start option is available for participants who typically require more time to complete the course. The prize giving takes place at the finish area following the conclusion of the event.
