Trooperstown and Clara Vale Loop
The event is a mountain run in County Wicklow on Sunday, 26th April 2026. The course covers a distance of 21.50 km with a total climb of 750 m. The event has a difficulty rating of 8, described as moderate terrain with more than 500m of ascent and more than 10km.
The route is fully marked, but GPS devices are not allowed. The run is part of the Leinster Half-Marathon League. All runners must bring mandatory kit, which includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or equivalent. The actual kit to be carried will be confirmed on the day.
The start and finish point is at a bridge beside the car park. An early start option at 10:30am is available for runners with a typical 160%+ runtime. The course begins with a right turn at a T-junction, followed by a left onto a track uphill through trees. It goes over Trooperstown Hill and then completes a clockwise loop over ‘Boots’ Hill and towards Clara Vale. Runners should watch for easy-to-miss turns, including a left into a gap after a downhill section and a small gap onto a road near Clara church.
A water station for refills only is located at approximately the 16 km mark, near a forest entrance. The final section rejoins the earlier trail over Trooperstown Hill to return to the finish. The prize-giving will be held in the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
