The Baldface Scramble is a mountain trail race held Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the White Mountain National Forest at Baldface Farm / Copeland Field off Route 113 in Chatham, NH (Evans Notch). The event is part of the White Mountain Endurance Cup series. Distances offered:

Course and logistics

The 29 km race uses two different loops that include the Baldfaces on loop one and a second loop over Mount Meader. The 14 km race is a single loop that traverses the Baldfaces. Course terrain includes steep ledges, exposed sections, and single track; the Baldfaces climbs include some scrambling. Parking and the start/finish are on private property with parking in a grass field accessed via a long driveway off Route 113. There are no pacers allowed. Crews may be at the start/finish. Drop bags are allowed only at the start/finish.

Support, limits, and stats

Aid stations: the 29 km route passes a fully stocked aid station at the start/finish area (around mile 8.6 on loop one). The 14 km course has no on-course aid stations. Time limits are approximately 9 hours for the 29 km and 8 hours for the 14 km. Key course figures: 29 km ~17.8 miles with ~6,226 ft elevation gain and max elevation 3,578 ft; 14 km ~9 miles with ~3,479 ft elevation gain and max elevation 3,578 ft.

Requirements and gear

Mandatory gear includes 2 liters of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space blanket or emergency foil blanket. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own hydration system. Entrants are expected to have completed a hilly, moderately technical trail race of at least 10 miles or have equivalent mountain experience. GPX course files and a water filter are recommended.
