Crooked River 5k
The Crooked River 5k is presented as an introduction to trail running along the Crooked River in Harrison, ME. The event uses trails in the Crooked River Forest and features freshly cut singletrack lined with tall red pines and river views. The start and finish are at the historic Scribner's Mill bridge at Scribner's Mill, 244 Scribners Mills Rd.
The course is a "lollipop" loop. Runners leave Scribners Mills Rd for the Crooked River Trailhead, follow the trail to a fork, veer left onto Intervale Trail down to the Crooked River, connect to the winter snowshoe trail, then onto Evergreen Trail back to the trailhead and return on Scribners Mills Rd to the finish. A GPX file for the course is available.
There is one aid station at about 1.75 miles, located at the end of the winter snowshoe trail at the start of the Evergreen Trail. The aid station provides water only; participants should be prepared with any needed calories or electrolytes. Walk-in registrations are welcome the day of the race and will be cash only. The entry fee is $25 and registration closes Saturday, July 25.
Signing up for one race in the series provides a $5 discount on another race in the same series. Signing up for any three races in the series earns a series hoodie and entry to a drawing for a $150 Canyon Wren Coaching gift card. Proceeds benefit the Loon Echo Land Trust. Volunteers are requested to assist at course junctions, the start/finish area, and the aid station.
Sponsors include Marathon Sports and Canyon Wren Coaching. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
