Event Overview
The Backyard Ultra - Las Cruces is a "last runner standing" event following the standard backyard ultra format. Participants repeatedly run a 4.167-mile lollipop-style loop every hour until only one runner completes a lap alone within the time limit.
Location and Course
The event takes place at the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The course is on well-maintained trails, primarily composed of crushed gravel, with some elevation changes. It offers views of the Organ Mountain range.
Event Format and Rules
The race follows specific backyard ultra rules:
- Each lap is 4.167 miles.
- A new lap begins every hour on the hour.
- Runners must be in the marked starting box at the beginning of each hour.
- Aid and personal assistance are only allowed between laps on the course.
- The event is cupless.
Participant Information
The event is capped at 75 participants. Registration includes a hoodie, a DNF (Did Not Finish) medal, and access to the aid station. Runners who complete 24 laps (100 miles) receive a 100-mile buckle. Awards are given for overall, male, and female winners, as well as for the fastest lap.
Packet pickup is available at Bluebird Running in Las Cruces on the day before the event and near the start/finish area on the morning of the event.
