Back The Blue Pump N Run is scheduled for 10/10/2026 at 5200 Grand Ave, Ames, IA, United States. The main event is a 3.1 mile Pump and Run that combines a bench-press component with a 5K run or walk. Participants attempt bench presses at a percentage of their body weight according to posted weight charts; the number of successful lifts is part of the final score.
Scoring reduces an athlete's 5K time by 30 seconds for each successful lift, up to 30 lifts for a maximum 15 minute reduction. Athletes may also choose to only run or walk the 5K portion without performing lifts. Weigh-in and lifting take place on race day during the organizer's designated check-in window.
A separate kids dash is held on race day. Awards include medals for the top male and female finishers in each age category and a traveling trophy for the top law enforcement official.
