Back Cove Backyard Ultra
The Back Cove Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra event held in Portland, ME, on the Back Cove Trail. Participants run repeated loops around a tidal estuary basin until only one runner remains. Each loop follows the Back Cove Trail and includes a short Bayside Trail add on so each circuit equals approximately 4.16 miles.
The Back Cove Trail portion is described as a 3.5 mile non technical, mostly flat gravel loop with a short paved bridge crossing and views along the estuary. Parking is free in the public lot adjacent to the start and finish on a first come, first served basis. There are porta potties both in Payson Park and at the start and finish area.
There are two aid stations. An unstaffed aid station in Payson Park will provide water, basic first aid supplies, and packaged snacks. A fully staffed aid station at the start and finish will provide water, electrolytes, packaged and prepared snacks, and basic first aid supplies. Event personnel will be present at the start and finish for the duration of the event and participants may leave drop bags or supplies there. There is space for a small tent or canopy adjacent to the start and finish.
This event is described as hyper local with a deliberately lower entry price. Organizers will not issue refunds except for extraordinary circumstances at their discretion and will offer a pregnancy deferral for use the following year. Registration closes on Wed, Jul 8 at 11:59 PM ET. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
