Event Format

The Back Cove Backyard Ultra is a timed running event where participants must complete a loop of 4.167 miles every hour. The event continues until only one runner remains able to complete a loop within the hour.

Course Details

The loop uses the Back Cove Trail, a 3.5-mile non-technical, mostly flat gravel path along a tidal estuary. A short paved bridge crossing is included. To achieve the standard backyard ultra distance, runners complete a 0.60-mile add-on section on the Bayside Trail at the start/finish area each loop. The course offers views along its length.

Facilities and Support

Two aid stations are provided. One unstaffed station in Payson Park offers water, basic first aid, and packaged snacks. A fully staffed station at the start/finish provides water, electrolytes, and packaged and prepared snacks, along with basic first aid. Participants may leave drop bags at the start/finish, where event personnel are present throughout. Space is available for a small personal tent or canopy near the start/finish. Porta potties are located in Payson Park and at the start/finish area. Free public parking is available adjacent to the start on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration Policy

The event does not issue refunds, except in extraordinary circumstances determined at the organizers' discretion. A pregnancy deferral is offered for use in a subsequent year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
