Bryre Dragon : Vogel State Park, Blairsville GA
Bryre Dragon is an H9-HAE trail event held at Vogel State Park near Blairsville, Georgia. The event comprises multiple trail races on routes that use the Duncan Ridge Trail, the Coosa Loop, a short section of the Benton MacKaye Trail, and some Forest Service road.
Distances include:
- 100 miles - multi-lap route largely on the Duncan Ridge.
- 40 miles - one full lap of the main course.
- 40 km (Dragon Egg) - out-and-back to Mulky Gap.
The 100-mile race follows two full laps plus two half traverses of the Duncan Ridge. The 40-mile race completes one lap. The 40 km race is a shorter out-and-back and is organized to avoid nighttime running. Cutoff windows are used rather than daily minimums; the 100-mile field includes several intermediate cutoffs at designated points along the lap.
Support locations on the course include Vogel State Park (Group Shelter), Fire Pit, Fish Gap, and Skeenah Gap. Mulky Gap is added as a support point primarily for the 40 km. Hot food and drinks are noted at the Vogel support area and restrooms are adjacent to campsites.
The course has considerable elevation gain and is described as not very technical by East Coast standards. Volunteer work receives credit toward future race entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
