Bryre Dragon (Baby Dragon) : Vogel State Park
Bryre Dragon, organized by H9 Events, is a multi-race trail event held at Vogel State Park near Blairsville, GA. The event program includes several ultra and trail distances that use the local ridge and forest trails.
Primary races include:
- 100 mile ultra
- 100 km race
- 40 mile race
- 40 km race
- 25 km Coosa Challenge
The course route uses the Coosa Loop, the Duncan Ridge Trail, a short section of the Benton MacKaye Trail, and a few miles of Forest Service road. The main lap is roughly a 40 mile loop from Vogel to Skeenah and back, mostly out-and-back with an outbound river crossing and an inbound section on Forest Service Roads 108/107 to Burnett Gap. By East Coast standards the trails are not very technical but include considerable elevation gain. The 100 mile and 100 km layouts are built from multiple full and half traverses of the Duncan Ridge; the 40 mile course uses two full traverses.
Support locations listed for the event include Vogel State Park (Group Shelter), Fire Pit, Fish Gap, and Skeenah Gap, with Mulky Gap added later for some runners. Hot food and drinks are available at Vogel and restrooms are adjacent to campsites. Temperatures are expected to warm and humidity may be high.
Volunteers are accepted and receive credit toward future race entries. All participants must check in before the race and late starts are not allowed; certain age criteria may allow an early start for the 100 mile race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
