Avon 5K Run/Walk - Avon-by-the-Sea

The Avon 5K Run/Walk is a seaside race in Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, marking its 30th year. The event includes a standard 5K running division and a 5K wheelchair division. The wheelchair athletes start approximately two minutes before the runners.

The course runs along Ocean Avenue and Norwood Avenue and is described as flat and partially shaded. Timing is recorded using rubber timing mats on Ocean Avenue; participants must cross the mats at the start and the finish for a time to be recorded. Clocks and water stops are provided at each mile. Post-race refreshments such as water, bagels, and fruit are set up on Ocean Avenue toward the pool.

Entry fee is $25.00. Shirts are guaranteed to the first 1,500 registered runners. All runners are automatically entered in a post-race raffle that uses bib numbers; raffle prizes include season beach badges. Prize money is awarded to the top three finishers, male and female, and to the first Avon resident, male and female (1st $100, 2nd $50, 3rd $25; 1st Avon resident $25). Trophies and age-group medals are also awarded; wheelchair divisions have equivalent prize categories.

Street parking is available and free, with parking prohibited on Ocean Avenue; First Avenue between Lincoln and Woodland; and the first block of Washington near Ocean Avenue. Results are posted online and as hard copy on bulletin boards on the fence of the town pool on Norwood Avenue.

Bib and shirt pickup is available early at the Avon First Aid Building (520 Main Street) on the Thursday and Friday before the race, and a late pickup at the pavilion on the Boardwalk at Norwood Avenue on Saturday. There is no pickup on Wednesday; expect lines if picking up on Saturday.
