63rd Annual Asbury Park Polar Bear Races
The Asbury Park Polar Bear Races take place in late December at the Asbury Park Convention Center in New Jersey. This long-standing event features multiple distances and categories for participants along the Atlantic coastline. The scheduled events include:
- 1 Mile Run
- 5K Run
- 5K Racewalk
The 5K course follows a route that extends 1.55 miles out from Asbury Park into Bradley Beach before turning back. Participants finish the race at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park. The course includes sections on the boardwalk and is noted for being narrow in certain areas, particularly as runners leave Asbury Park and pass through Bradley Beach.
For the 5K run, awards are presented to the overall male and female winners, along with gift certificates for second and third place finishers and top masters finishers. Age-group recognition is provided in five-year increments. Youth participants in the 1 Mile event are eligible for special gifts and awards for top finishers. The event partners with Interfaith Neighbors, an organization that supports local food security through the Community Food Connection program.
