The Holmdel Classic
The Holmdel Classic is a multi-loop trail event held at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, New Jersey. The course is a single loop of about 4.65 miles with approximately 95% trail and double-track surface and about 584 feet of elevation gain per lap. Distances offered include:
- 50 kmish event completing seven laps
- Halfish event completing three laps
The route combines grass, dirt, rocks, roots, gravel, occasional pavement, uphill and downhill sections, and open sprints. The lap begins in a large open grass field, includes a quarter-mile uphill climb early, and passes a feature called The Bowl near mile 1.5. Exiting The Bowl involves a steep climb, with additional sustained climbs and descents after the tennis courts before returning to the start area.
Timing is recorded with an RFID system and lap counts are tracked. There is a strict 8 hour cutoff for finishers, equivalent to a 4.07 mph pace. Aid is available only at the start and finish location and will include drinks, snacks, hydration, and first aid; no food will be prepared and there are no aid stations on course. Runners may carry personal supplies, spectators are allowed, and pacers are not permitted.
All event proceeds benefit MissionCleanWater, a nonprofit that supports installation and long-term maintenance of clean water systems. The event will continue in various weather conditions unless local park authorities deem conditions unsafe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
