Event
The Atlanta Fat Ass is an annual trail running event held at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, GA. The 2026 edition is scheduled for January 4, 2026. The event is free but open only to current GUTS members. Distances offered:
- 50K
- 25K
The event has been held since 1994. A crockpot chili contest is part of the post-race activities; participants bring chili in crockpots, ballots are used to vote for favorites, and GUTS provides bowls, utensils, and some toppings. Hot food will be available at the finish.
Course and logistics
The course is six loops run on the white trails, with a counter-clockwise routing that goes down Jack's and up the stairs. The trail surface is all singletrack with some hills and technical sections that include roots, rocks, and boulders. The course will be marked with bright tape and flags. Poles are allowed.
Start and finish are at the Group Shelter. Packet pickup is at the Group Shelter on race morning. Parking is in the Group Shelter lot or adjacent areas; a $5 state park parking fee is collected on arrival or an annual Georgia State Park pass may be used. Runners must begin the final loop by mid-afternoon due to a time cutoff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
