Atlanta Fat Ass
The Atlanta Fat Ass is a low-key trail event held at Sweetwater State Park in Lithia Springs, Georgia. This event has been organized since 1994 and is designed as a post-holiday gathering for members of the Georgia Ultrarunning and Trailrunning Society (GUTS). The event emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere with minimal fees and support.
The following distances are available:
- 50 km
- 25 km
The course consists of six loops on the white trails within the state park. The terrain is entirely off-road and includes several hills. The start and finish area is located at the Group Shelter. Participants must begin their final loop by 3:00 PM to meet the course cutoff.
While the event is free for GUTS members, participants are responsible for the state park parking fee, which can be paid in cash upon arrival or via an annual Georgia State Park pass. Packet pickup is conducted on the morning of the event at the group shelter.
A notable feature of the event is the FatAss Crockpot Chili Contest. Runners are encouraged to bring their own chili in a crockpot to compete for a prize. Attendees vote for their favorite entry, and the winner receives a special award. Bowls, utensils, and toppings are provided by the organizers, and hot food is served at the finish line.
