Annalong Horseshoe 2026
The Annalong Horseshoe comprises two mountain running events organised by BARF on the Carricklittle track and surrounding peaks. The longer race is a NIMRA Championship long race that follows the revised route introduced in 2021. The shorter race forms part of the NIMRA League and uses a reduced variation of the Horseshoe.
Distances and ascent:
- 20 km / 2000 m ascent Championship long course
- 9 km / 500 m ascent League short course
The long course starts at the top of the Carricklittle track, visits Chimney Rock, Slieve Donard, Commedagh (control at the tower south side), Cove, Slieve Lamagan and Slieve Binnian, and finishes at the Carricklittle entrance. The short course follows the Carricklittle track to the Binnian/Lamagan col, includes a Binnian North Tor checkpoint, and returns to the carpark on Carricklittle track. Competitors must visit checkpoints in order; the route between checkpoints is at runners’ discretion.
This is mountain terrain on open hills; entrants should have appropriate fitness, navigation experience and equipment. Organisers may refuse a start to anyone deemed insufficiently prepared or equipped. Full race kit must be presented at registration and a gear check will be performed. Parking is available for the first 50 cars for a fee of £3; other parking is further down the track. The minimum entry age is 18 on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
