Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K: Run, Walk, or Ruck
The Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K is a Fourth of July event held in downtown Ann Arbor near 313 E. Washington Street and the intersection of Liberty and 4th. The event offers multiple race formats and family options on the same day, including road and virtual entries.
Distances and main formats:
- 5K Run, Walk, Rucking Division, Flag Carrying Division, Hot Dog Eating Division
- 1 Mile Timed Fun Run and a 1 Mile Fun Ruck
- 200 m Kids Dash for ages 8 and under
The rucking division requires participants to carry a weighted rucksack or weighted vest. Rucking weight rules apply by participant bodyweight and rucks are weighed at the finish; finishers who meet weight requirements are eligible for overall and age group awards. The first 200 registrants in the competitive rucking division receive a commemorative patch. The flag carrying category requires participants to bear a mounted 3 by 5 American flag from start to finish. The hot dog eating division admits up to 20 competitors who attempt to eat four hot dogs in 76 seconds before beginning the 5K.
Several youth events are offered, some free with a paid adult entry. The event is walker friendly. Sunglasses and medals are provided to participants in all divisions.
