Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races : Course information
The Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races include a multi-discipline Run-Swim-Run, a boardwalk 5K run/walk, and a 1 mile kids run. All events start and finish at the 31st Street start/finish arch on the Virginia Beach boardwalk and use beach, ocean, and boardwalk terrain.
- Run-Swim-Run: 1K beach run, 1K ocean swim, 5K boardwalk run
- 5K Run/Walk: Boardwalk out-and-back to 9th Street turnaround
- 1 Mile Kids Run: Start at 31st Street, turnaround at 24th Street
For the Run-Swim-Run the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service determines the current direction; the run leg goes either north from 31st Street to 40th Street or south from 31st Street to 22nd Street, followed by a return swim to 31st Street. After exiting the water, racers pass through the arch and transition at 31st Street Park for the boardwalk 5K. The 5K is an out-and-back with a marked turnaround at 9th Street and finishes beneath the 31st Street arch.
The 1 mile kids run follows the boardwalk to the old Coast Guard Station at 24th Street and returns to the arch; all participating children receive a finisher’s medal. Results are posted for the kids run but no awards are given for that event. The event benefits the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Navy SEAL Foundation.
