Alaska Distance Classic
The Alaska Distance Classic is a multi-distance running event held in Anchorage, Alaska. The race begins at the Alaska Pacific University (APU) campus and offers several options for participants to choose from based on their preferred distance. The course takes runners through the wooded areas surrounding the University of Alaska and the Alaska Pacific University campuses.
Participants can choose from the following in-person and virtual race options:
- 5K
- 10K
- 15K (Double-Up)
The Double-Up option allows participants to complete both the 5K and the 10K races sequentially. Those choosing this option have a 45-minute window to finish the first distance before the start of the second event. Completing both distances results in a special finisher medal. The event also provides rewards for those completing the individual distances, including root beer floats for participants.
In addition to the athletic competition, the event serves as a fundraiser to raise awareness for Special Olympics Alaska. The race partners with this organization to highlight the achievements of its athletes, particularly during Olympic years. Virtual participation options are also available for those who cannot attend the event at the university campus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
