Alaska Distance Classic
The Alaska Distance Classic is offered as both an in-person and virtual event centered at Alaska Pacific University. Participants choose from the following distances:
- 5K
- 10K
- Double-Up (both 5K and 10K)
The in-person race stages from the Atwood Center and finishes near the APU fountain. Both courses use wide road starts and wooded, paved multi-use trails around the U-Med district. The 5K follows a shorter out-and-back on Elmore Road and diverges from the 10K at Goose Lake. The 10K includes a lap around University Lake with about three quarters of a mile on well-packed dirt trails before returning to campus.
Support services include two aid stations with water, sports drink, and snacks, and a bag check area outside the Atwood Center courtyard. Parking is available at the UAA Library lot and on the APU campus, with more space at the library and limited on-campus parking.
All participants receive a commemorative event shirt and a root beer float at the finish; Double-Up finishers receive a special finisher medal. The event includes fundraising and awareness for Special Olympics Alaska and reported a $3,000 donation in 2024. Virtual participants can complete their distance during a designated window and may request packet shipping. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
