Acorn Creek Trail Run
The Acorn Creek Trail Run takes place at the Salmon Falls Ranch near Pilot Hill, California. The event is a fundraiser for the American River Conservancy, with proceeds supporting trail maintenance in the local area. The course is situated east of Folsom Lake and utilizes a network of single-track trails characterized by creek crossings, climbs, and views of the surrounding landscape.
Participants can choose from two race distances which share a common course layout:
- 10K (10.5 km): Consists of a single lap of the complete course.
- Half Marathon: Consists of two laps of the course, with a checkpoint split time recorded after the first lap.
The route includes multiple trail segments such as the Highline Trail, Creek to Peak Trail, and the Sidewinder Trail. Runners reach the Folsom Lake Overlook during the initial loop before descending toward additional sections of the ranch. The course has a total time limit of 5 hours for both distances, and the event is capped at 175 participants.
Two aid stations are positioned along the route to provide water, electrolytes, fruit, and snacks. Aid Station 1 is located at the Folsom Lake Overlook, while Aid Station 2 is accessible from multiple points on the loops. The race uses chip-timing, and all participants receive a custom t-shirt and race medal. Parking is limited at the trailhead, and a shuttle service operates from the nearby Salmon Falls-Sweetwater Trailhead parking lot for those without priority parking passes.
