Accept Zero Run, Walk, and Virtual 5K
The Accept Zero event is a community focused gathering in Independence, Missouri, dedicated to suicide prevention and awareness. Participants gather to honor individuals, encourage dialogue, and support the message that suicide is preventable. Proceeds from the event fund community education, free training sessions, and financial assistance for individuals in crisis to cover essential needs like medical bills and utilities.
The event offers several participation options for different ages and preferences:
- 5K Run/Walk: A timed course open to participants aged 5 and older.
- Youth Fun Run: A 100 yards dash for children aged 12 and under, featuring a guest appearance by the Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf.
- Virtual 5K: A flexible option allowing participants to complete the distance on their own time and preferred course, including treadmills.
The 5K event includes various recognition categories. A monetary gift is provided to the top overall male and female finishers. Additionally, custom medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers across multiple age brackets, ranging from 5-9 through to 80+. All participants in the 5K and the 100 yards Youth Fun Run receive participation medals.
Registered participants in the 5K receive a swag bag containing a race t-shirt and a wristband. The event supports group participation, offering a reduced registration fee for teams of four or more people. Packet pick-up is available at designated locations in Independence and Kansas City in the days leading up to the race.
