Event Overview
The Accept Zero Run, Walk, and Virtual 5K is a community event in Independence, Missouri. The event aims to acknowledge suicide, honor those lost and survivors, encourage dialogue, and spread the message that suicide is preventable.
Events and Registration
The event includes three options:
- Accept Zero 5K Run/Walk: A timed 5 km event for participants aged 5 and up. Registration includes a swag bag with an event t-shirt (not guaranteed after March 15) and wristbands.
- Youth Fun Run: A short race for children aged 12 and under. Every child receives a finisher's medal.
- Accept Zero 5K Virtual Run/Walk: A virtual option where participants can complete a 5 km run or walk on their own course and submit results online.
Registration prices increase on specified dates. Team registrations of four or more people are available, with discounts applied after the fourth member joins.
Purpose and Fundraising
Money raised supports community suicide prevention. Funds provide free Question, Persuade, Response (QPR) training to organizations and individuals. They also offer financial assistance to people experiencing suicidal thoughts to help cover costs like rent, utilities, basic needs, and medical bills. Funds also help promote the 988 Crisis Line and awareness events.
Event Day Details
The event takes place at 4501 S. Bass Pro Drive in Independence. There are multiple packet pickup opportunities in the days before the event and on the morning of the race. Day-of registration closes at specific times for runners and walkers. Pets are not allowed at the event.
Awards
A monetary gift is awarded to the top overall male and female finishers of the 5 km. All participants in the 5 km and Youth Fun Run receive a participation medal.
