The half marathon and 5K are run separately. The 5K start occurs after the half marathon participants have left the starting area.
Course Description
Both events start and finish in front of the world headquarters of the host organization, Burns & McDonnell. The course takes place on historic Ward Parkway and is described as a tree-lined residential route featuring boulevards, urban parks, distinctive architecture, and fountains. The terrain is described as fairly flat and undulating, with a 1.5-mile downhill section leading to the finish.
Support stations providing water and Gatorade are located every 1.5 to 2 miles along the course. One or two of the later stations also offer Gu or similar energy products.
Event Features
The event includes a race expo on the previous day, Friday, April 10, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The expo is located on the Aspiria Campus in Overland Park, specifically on the second floor of the building at 6050 Sprint Parkway. Parking is available in a designated garage.
Participants receive a tech shirt. All finishers receive a medal. Awards are given for overall and age group performances across more than a dozen categories.
