Abner Oakes III Veterans Run 5K & 10K - Hamden, CT

The Abner Oakes III Veterans Run is a community road event held in Hamden, Connecticut at the Farmington Canal parking lot on October 25, 2026. The event offers measured road races over short distances and is organized with charity support in mind.

Proceeds from the event benefit House of Heroes Connecticut. That organization provides one-day, no-cost home repairs for Connecticut military and public safety veterans and their spouses through partnerships with individuals, civic groups, and corporations. Since 2012 the Connecticut chapter has completed 276 no-cost home repair projects across 73 cities and towns; the chapter is projected to reach 286 projects by the end of the year.

The event is dedicated to Abner Oakes III, a Navy veteran and founder of the Hamden Veterans Commission. He was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame in 2010 and passed away in 2021.
