Abner Oakes III Veterans Run
The Abner Oakes III Veterans Run is a community road race in Hamden, Connecticut, held at the Farmington Canal parking area on Sherman Avenue. The event offers multiple course options and a fun walk, with an out and back course on the Farmington Canal trail that does not require crossing traffic intersections.

Proceeds benefit House of Heroes Connecticut, an organization that provides one day, no-cost home repairs for Connecticut military and public safety veterans and surviving spouses. The Connecticut chapter has completed 319 no-cost repair projects since 2012 in 73 cities and towns and is expected to reach 326 projects by race day.
Race services include packet pickup on race day and same-day registration at the race site. Registration includes race entry, chip timing, race day parking, and an event t-shirt; the shirt order is placed 10 days before the event so a shirt and desired size are only guaranteed for early registrants. Parking is available in the Farmington Canal lot and along the street; participants are asked to avoid local business parking lots to prevent towing.
A pet policy prohibits animals at the registration area, the starting line, and on the course. The event is dedicated to Abner Oakes III, a Navy veteran and founder of the Hamden Veterans Commission, who was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame in 2010 and passed away May 29, 2021.
