A Salute to Our Veterans Hilo Bay 5K Run/Walk
The 14th Annual Hilo Bay Veterans Independence Day Run, Walk, and Roll is organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post and Auxiliary 3830, Pahoa, in partnership with Hawai'i County Parks and Recreation. This event is held in conjunction with the America 250 Hawai'i celebration to commemorate 250 years of independence. The event honors individuals who served in the military and raises awareness regarding the challenges faced by ill and injured veterans.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- 5K Run: A traditional running race for various ability levels.
- 5K Walk: A walking-only event held on the same course.
- 5K Virtual Race: Participation available from any location.
The course is located at Hilo Bay, with the primary meeting point situated at Banyan Drive. The event is inclusive of all ages and abilities, specifically welcoming wheelchair users and disabled veterans. Packet pickup and in-person registration are available the day before the race on Banyan Drive. While registration is permitted on the day of the event for an additional fee, these late entries might not receive official timing.
This community gathering focuses on service, unity, and patriotism. It provides a platform for community members, families, and veterans to gather in support of veteran awareness while honoring freedom and liberty. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
