Event Overview
The Big Island International Marathon takes place in Hilo, Hawaii, with the start and finish lines located at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel on Banyan Drive. The event features multiple distances and includes an expo and packet pickup held the day before the races.
Course Details
The race layout for the timed distances consists of two out and back sections. The Marathon course features a top half with approximately 800 feet of elevation gain, while the bottom half is relatively flat with about 10 feet of gain. The Half Marathon follows a similar structure, with a 400-foot elevation gain on the first section and 10 feet on the second.
The 10K and 5K routes also utilize two out and back segments. These courses pass local landmarks such as the Hilo bayfront, the Ice Pond, and Onekahakaha. A non-timed 2 Mile walk is available, starting from the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and proceeding past Reeds Bay Park and Orchid Manor.

- Marathon: A 26.2 mile race consisting of two out and back loops.
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile course with two distinct elevation profiles.
- 10K: A 6.2 mile run covering the bayfront and coastal areas.
- 5K: A 3.1 mile distance visiting the Ice Pond and Orchid Manor.
- 2 Mile walk: A non-timed participation event including a shirt and bib.
- Virtual Races: Remote options for the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K distances.
