9/11 Memorial 5K and Kids' Run
This event is presented by the Middletown PBA as a fundraising memorial and scholarship effort for a retired deputy chief who responded to Ground Zero and later died from cancer. It honors 37 Middletown residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
The main event offers a certified 5K course that starts at the Middletown Train Station at 22 Church Street in Middletown, New Jersey. The route goes out 1.55 miles and returns along Middletown-Lincroft Road, with the turnaround at Thompson Middle School. Official chip timing and live results will be used. Two water tables are provided, one at the turnaround and one at the finish. Overall and age group awards, grouped every five years, are presented after the kids run.
A separate kids run of approximately half a mile is scheduled. Bib pick up is held the day before the race at the Middletown Train Station. Registration options include a standard 5K entry and a kids run fee; a memorial or in honor lawn sign option is available with associated entries and merchandise included at higher sponsorship levels. Various sponsor packages are listed with differing benefits and lawn sign options. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
