Rutgers Big Chill 5K : December 12, 2026
The event offers both an in person and a virtual option for a 5K run or walk. The in person event is held on the College Avenue campus in New Brunswick, with runner check in at the College Avenue Gym, 130 College Ave. The event takes place rain or shine.
The Big Chill has been held since 2003 to collect toys for local children and support campus initiatives. In person registration includes a $30 race fee plus a required new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more; cash donations are not accepted in lieu of a toy. Runner check in for in person entrants is available on Friday, December 11 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on Saturday, December 12 from 8:00 am to 9:45 am at the College Avenue Gym. Participants receive the long sleeved Big Chill shirt during runner check in. The in person field is limited to 3,250 runners and registration will close when that limit is reached.
Restrooms are available inside, with portapotties outdoors on the corner of College Ave and Senior Street. Food and water are provided outside after the 5K. In person results are posted live on the Compuscore website.
The virtual option runs from December 7 through December 14. Virtual registration includes a printable digital bib and a process for submitting times, uploading photos, and downloading a finisher certificate through the event platform. Race merchandise, including long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts, is available for purchase through the event store. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
