Rutgers Big Chill 5K
The Rutgers Big Chill 5K is a charitable running event held in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The in person event takes place on December 12, 2026 at the College Avenue Gym and a virtual option runs from December 7 through December 14, 2026. Registration opens October 1, 2026; in person registration closes December 12, 2026.
Race formats and fees:
- In person : 5K; registration fee $30 and an additional new toy valued at $10 or more is required at runner check in.
- Virtual : 5K; registration fee $10, participants may complete the distance at a location of their choice within the virtual window and submit results online.
Runner check in for the in person event is at the College Avenue Gym, 130 College Avenue, New Brunswick. Check in is available the afternoon before the race and the morning of the event. In person participants receive the long sleeved Big Chill shirt during runner check in. Restrooms will be available inside and portapotties will be located outdoors at the corner of College Avenue and Senior Street. Food and water are provided outside after the 5K. Results will be posted live on the Compuscore website and after race completion. The in person field is limited to 3,250 runners; registration will close once that limit is reached.
The event has a history of charitable giving; in 2025 more than $10,000 was contributed to the No Hungry Knights Fund and toys collected were distributed locally. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
