Walk to End HIV - Whitman-Walker Health

Whitman-Walker Health organizes an annual Walk and a 5K run called Walk to End HIV held at Anacostia Park in Washington, DC. The event takes place at the Roller Skating Pavilion, 1500 Anacostia Drive SE, and includes both a community walk and a timed 5K run.

The event serves as a fundraising effort to support HIV and related services. Organizers report a recent loss of 40 percent of federal funding for research and a $400,000 reduction for a prevention program that had enabled approximately 15,000 HIV and STI tests in the prior year. The campaign shows fundraising progress with $370,061 raised toward a $525,000 goal.

Site logistics note free on-site parking and a free shuttle connection from the Anacostia Metro stop to the park on a first-come, first-served basis. Roads into the park will close to traffic during the event, and shuttle service resumes after roads reopen. Registration for the next edition opens in spring of 2026. The event plans for about 1,000 walkers and runners to gather at Anacostia Park for the walk and run and includes a stage program and entertainment following the route.
