2027 5K Run/Walk of Hope
The LaMont Dottin Foundation organizes the annual Walk of Hope to provide hope and encouragement to families of missing persons and to affirm that their loved ones are remembered. The event takes place at 100 MGM National Avenue in Oxon Hill, MD, with participants gathering in the parking lot across from the MGM; a route map is provided to registered participants before the event.
The course covers 3.1 miles (5K). Amenities include free parking at MGM and Tanger Outlets, free bottled water, snack bars, and fruit along the trail, and a swag bag that may contain a t-shirt, wristband, and water bottle. Children 10 and under may participate at no cost.
The morning program includes participant arrival and check-in, an opening prayer, sponsor acknowledgements, an inspirational speaker, a release of doves in memory of the person the event honors, a group photo, warm up and stretching, the 5K walk and run, return of participants with medals and photos, and a closing prayer. Attendees are encouraged to bring posters or pictures of missing loved ones and to create signs during check-in to carry during the walk. The organizer states that this gathering aims to support families and keep attention on missing persons through remembrance and community activity.
