Event Format

The 24+ Hours of Brake the Habit is a team-based adventure race taking place over a period of 24 to 30 hours. The final timeframe will be announced once the course is finalized, but initial scouting suggests it may lean towards 30 hours. Teams consist of 2-4 people. The winner is determined by the team that accumulates the most points in the least amount of time, with strategy and route choice being key elements.

Discipline & Course

Participants engage in trekking, packrafting, mountain biking, and navigation through a course in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The terrain is described as rugged and relatively remote, set within the Monongahela National Forest. Checkpoints are optional, but transition areas (TAs) are mandatory. Teams are required to complete a minimum amount of the course but have options to skip checkpoints to manage their time.

Packrafting involves a specific leg where teams must carry their paddle gear on foot for a distance ranging from a minimum of 3 miles to a maximum of 5 to 6 miles, which may include off-trail navigation. Teams are not required to bike with their packrafts.

Additional Details
